The Giant's Necklace - Annotations and Ideas

Before I started creating illustrations for the book, it was important to read through my chosen short story and make notes on possible ideas and imagery. After reading through the story, I began thinking of bright colourful imagery at the beginning, but then gradually getting darker and more subdued as we near the death of the young girl. The family scenes in the kitchen at the beginning will reflect the happiness that is felt, but as we move to the beach, a monochromatic theme will be introduced as the storm brews. When we meeting the dead miner ghosts, they will provide a glowing light in the darkness which represents the hope that Cherry feels.
